In my previous post, I went over a simple detox diet recipe for easy weight loss success that I thought a lot of people would cringe at the thought of doing because the sheer act of abstaining from meat might be incredibly unbearable. And I also clarified that eating a vegetarian meal does NOT mean you can have all the starches you want along with a very low intake of vegetables, a common habitual eating pattern taking place everyday among vegetarians. Today I am going to reveal a detox diet plan that is more extreme than the starch-vegetable detoxification routine that was covered in the prior post. I must warn you that you should avoid this extreme form of detoxification in cold weather especially in the Winter.
And you are probably wondering how extreme can this particular weight loss detox diet be for one cold winter day. Let’s just say that if your body is cold, you obviously would need to put warm food into your body. And contrary to what you may think, your body burns more calories during the winter than in a very hot summer. I know what you are thinking. In the summer, you are sweating bullets. And most of you would equate sweating to losing weight because you lose maybe a little water weight . This is due primarily to habitually poor water drinking habits. Most people would rather go under hydrated than to have frequent urination tendencies. I tend to drink less water prior to watching a long 2 and half hour movie at a theater because I hate to be interrupted with a bathroom urge during a very good movie.
That is why weight scales in my opinion should be tossed out. Weight scales do more of a disservice to those people who are weight loss results oriented. Most people don’t realize that their main objective is to lose inches off their waist and not water weight. Loss of water weight is not a accurate measure of true weight loss.
I remember my experience as a Certified Personal Trainer at 24 Hour Fitness. On many occasions, I found myself shaking my head in disbelief when I see one of my clients sweating profusely….then getting off the gym treadmill to get on the weight scale right away and get incredibly happy when they lost two pounds. They think they lost it immediately as a result of excessively sweaty exercise. At that time as a personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness, I congratulated them for a job well done and confirmed with them that my personal training was indeed effective, and why they should continue to hire me as a personal trainer to help them achieve their weight loss goals much faster because I am the “fitness expert…. the typical 24 Hour Fitness sales pitch… But deep down inside, I knew the weight loss was pure water weight. But as a personal trainer, my job is not ONLY to help client’s achieve their weight loss goals, but also to sell them personal training packages and top selling weight loss supplements that I DIDN’T believe in.
You do not need weight loss supplements for effortless weight loss. And also they do more harm that good. Weight loss supplements are just perfect for fitness models that want that extra lean vascular look when they do a photo shoot. Just like the way professional body builders look when they grace the covers of magazines.
Let me repeat once again. If you are on a weight loss diet, you should toss out your weight scale and replace it with a measure body fat caliper that measures how much body fat you lost. Or even better, I remembered on many occasions recommending my clients to use the looseness of their pants around the waist as an indicator of weight loss progress. And also even better, how they look in the mirror will tell the true story. If you think you look better today than a week ago, then you know you lost inches off your waist. Many pounds lost in the form of fat is what you should be concerned about. Not lost water weight.
Now enough of my rambling. Now let’s get to the good stuff now regarding an intensive detox program that require you to abstain from meats and starches completely just for one day. So for only one day, you are only allowed to consume fruits and vegetables… and all the juices and water you want. This is a high quality colon cleansing routine without having to starve yourself. As a matter of fact, you can eat as much as you want. Just remember not to overeat or under eat. Eat to be satiated.
Remember I said not to try this fruit and vegetable detox on a very cold day. The reason is because your body needs more warm foods at that time, and you can possibly get sick from lack of body heat. In this scenario, cleansing could weaken you. According the principles of Chinese medicine, during the cold winter months, your body needs to go through a rebuilding phase. What I mean by that is that your body needs foods that build strength. Chicken is considered a strength food. It is characterized as a Yang food. Yang foods warm the body. Most vegetables and fruits are considered Yin foods and they cool the body. People who suffer from inflammation have a bad case of overconsumption of too many Yang foods, like chicken and steak. These people need to eat more Yin foods. Yin and Yang is all about balance.
Due to the length of this post, I will go more in detail on Yin and Yang foods on how it relates to health beauty and weight loss.
Preferably on a warm or hot day, you can have as many fruits or juices in the morning. Remember to eat and drink them on an empty stomach leading up to lunch time.
Then you can have as much salad as you want. I don’t know about you, but I like to go to Fresh Choice where they have an eat-all-you-can-eat salad bar. On this particular day of cleansing, I would pig out on salad. Put whatever dressing you want. The cleansing nature of vegetables would offset the fatty nature and slight toxic effects of the dressing.
I know you are probably worried that you will probably go hungry in two hours. My answer to your concern is not to worry. If you are hungry, you can have more salad. If you don’t feel like eating salad again, have more fruit if you want,,. that is fruit on an empty stomach. Vegetables only stay in your stomach for about two hours. So if you had lunch at twelve noon, you will probably be hungry around two in the afternoon.
And I forgot to mention that you can have soup if you want. But make sure the soup is vegetable soup only. Have as much as you want.
Now dinner comes around. You are probably tired of salads right now. Instead you can have some sauteed vegetables. If you are not good at cooking vegetables to make them taste deliciously palatable, you can go to vegetarian restaurants and order a vegetarian dish. Remember no starches period!!
Since I am Buddhist, two times every month, I celebrate a very special vegetarian day of Buddhism worshiping. On this particular sacred day, I cannot eat meat for a whole day. This is the day when I go to the Buddhist temple where my dad works to have a very delicious Buddhist vegetarian dish called ( Jie in Cantonese…rhymes with “guy”).
When you go to a Chinese restaurant next time, ask for Jie (rhymes with “guy”). It is a combination vegetarian dish consisting of a wide assortment of vegetables you have never heard of or seen…like chinese mushrooms ( a wide variety ), bamboo shoots, snow peas, Wooden Ears (Mook Yee, in Cantonese), Mung bean noodles and more…Please note that Chinese Mung bean noodles are vegetables despite their obvious noodle-like texture. What the Chinese have done was grind up the mung beans into powder and convert them into noodles. Mung beans are a natural detox food in case you didn’t know which is a way more healthier than starchy pasta.
Sometimes when I do a one day cleanse on vegetables at very meal especially raw vegetables like salads, I would feel slightly chilly even on a warm or hot day. You must let your body be the indicator when you need some cooked food. If you feel cold even on a warm day, then you need more cooked vegetables than raw vegetables. When I mean cooked food, I mean cooked vegetables. And Jie (rhymes with “guy”) is the perfect Buddhist vegetarian dish I never get tired of because it’s cooked. You can never get tired of cooked food. If you ask me to give up meat and live on vegetables for the rest of my life, I will never get tired of Jie. I will get tired of eating salads but never tired of Jie. As I am writing this post, I am drooling at the thought of eating Jie tomorrow.
So next time when you go to a Chinese restaurant, ask for Jie. You might have to go to an authentic Chinese restaurant to get that dish. Most fast food Chinese restaurants serve the typical foods that we are all familiar with like Chow mein, chop suey, fried rice, and etc.
So if you decide to go to a Chinese cooking school, learn how to cook Jie and I guarantee you will probably entertain the idea of becoming a part-time vegetarian for the rest of your life.
There you have it. I told you it wasn’t that bad to go for one morning on fruits and the rest of the afternoon on vegetables at every meal. And on this day alone, you probably would have consumed more vegetables and fruits than you ever did in your entire life. This is the most natural form of colon cleansing without laxatives or colon cleansing products.
On the next post, I will cover a type of detoxification that I dread and I have never undertaken. Neither has my sister. But my sister’s friends undergo it twice a year for seven days. It is called the liquid fast cleansing diet. I will just touch on it briefly on how to do it effectively without feeling starved. So stay tuned for my next post.

In my previous post, I elaborated in detail about the simple gradual process of modifying your diet with the foods you love to achieve not only maximum weight loss but also radiantly beautiful skin that you always dream of having. Today I am going to talk about a more advanced colon cleansing program with your favorite foods that is much more sustainable than all the other programs out there that painfully deprive you of nutrients your body needs. This advanced form of detoxification gives you the best of both worlds. First, cleaning out your system more thoroughly without stripping your body of nutrients as in the case of most detox programs that leave you feeling tired and feeling sluggish. This is all based on the yin and yang principles of Chinese medicine.
In the previous post I talked about how difficult it is to make the transition from poor eating habits to good one. It is like asking you to give up Pizza overnight and that is extremely hard to do especially when pizza is part of your daily meal routine. I am referring to those people who suffer from pizza addiction. I know a few friends of mine who fall under this category. They just simply cannot go without pizza for a day.
And before you are wondering how can these people follow the detoxification principles of a good colon cleansing program centered around the power of fruits eaten on an empty stomach? And also how can they follow the principles of proper food combining of not mixing starches with meats as in the case of pizza?
Pizza has both meats and starch and pizza is an example of improper food combining. Even though if you decide to have vegetarian pizza thinking that would solve the problem with food compatibility issues, just to let you know , cheese cannot be digested effectively in the presence of starches. Cheese goes well with salads and other vegetables, but not with starches. So instead of telling a pizza addict that give up the pizza, I would advise them to precede all their pizza meals with a big plate of salad or vegetables. This is what I refer to as a modified version of a beginner’s level detox diet plan. The concept behind this practice is to flood your body with nutrient rich digestive enzymes that paves the way for digesting your favorite pizza. I know that this is not the best way to digest a meal but it is better to minimize the negative effects of an undigested food.
I know you are right now wondering how on earth can I call this unorthodox eating strategy an effective detox diet plan especially involving the foods you love that you are supposed to be avoiding. The point I am try to make is that we are all human and we all suffer from unhealthy food cravings. Fried Chicken and greasy chow mein used to be my main staple, but it took me a while to give those foods up on a daily basis. I don’t mean to say that I am giving up fried chicken in my diet completely but I include them as part of my cheat meals which I can enjoy when I have an occasional craving for it, like for example, once every week or two. And I make sure I precede those meals with a big plate of salad or vegetables. It is a habit I have adopted and I am positive you will see a tremendous improvement in digestion and levels of detoxification.
Would you rather have undigested food trapped in your intestines resulting in constipation which is the cause of all skin problems associated with different forms of major health problems? Or would you want that molded food out of your system to prevent those toxins from being excreted through other channels of elimination, like for example your skin? I am not trying to say the food you eat is molded. But when it stays trapped in your intestinal tract for more than a day, it is a lot worse than the moldy condition of food.
Women who have radiantly beautiful skin rarely suffer from any constipation symptoms because they eat a properly combined meal most of the time. My sister Winny gets a lot of compliments from the people at her job about her smooth skin and she always tells me how they never stop bugging her for beauty secrets. They all think that she gets facials on a regular basis or uses some kind of secret Asian skin care product that they don’t know about. I even asked her myself on many occasions what products she is using currently that was the key to her flawless complexion. The reason why I ask is because she is always experimenting with new products all the time. And I consider her a guinea pig for any kind of new ageless skin care product that she is being introduced to by her friends who work at the Skin Care counter of major department stores like Macy’s, Sephora, etc.
And despite the fact that my sister Winny uses many different types of skin care products, she always tells me one critical piece of information that is worth more than a weight in gold. And that is no matter how good the skin care product is, if you do not follow an eat clean diet, you will be a victim of poor skin tone.
I even had the nerve to ask her how many times a day does she go to the bathroom or have a bowel evacuation. I know , to you, it sounds rather weird for me to ask my sister these personal questions. She already knows that I am a freak when it comes to constipation relief. I was always paranoid of having any kind of skin blemishes and still am today. This was a result of me being a victim of acne throughout my life leading up to my Thirties where it all stopped when I adopted a whole new approach to eating thanks to the Fit For Life book by Harvey Diamond.
Speaking on the subject of going to the bathroom, Winny tells me she goes a minimum of twice a day. Sometimes three times at most. And just to let you know, in case you are wondering, she does not take laxatives at all. Never has and never will. She is a product of proper food combining. She always told me that no matter how many facials you have, you will never achieve the skin tone you desire if you don’t make an effort to change your diet. She has told me the countless number of times she has gotten facials in the past only to be frustrated to see her skin looking horrible the following day as a result of constipation emanating from poor eating habits. Your skin is the barometer of your intestinal health. Chinese medicine books clarifies this point distinctly.
She told me when you are constipated as a result of not eating a properly combined meal, those toxins that couldn’t come out on the usual end in the form of a bowel movement are excreted through your skin. Your skin is also an organ of elimination just like your kidneys, liver, colon, and lungs. So now I hope by now you realize the importance of easy digestion of a properly combined meal.
Since this post is about advanced detoxification utilizing your favorite foods, I will reveal my sister’s eating habits that she has adopted into her daily regimen. You can use this as a guideline to incorporate this into your own program of advanced colon cleansing. But don’t worry!! This program will not force you to give up the foods you love. You will find it very relieving to realize that most of the foods you love will be part of your skin detox and weight loss program.
My sister, unlike me, eats a light breakfast consisting of oatmeal or sometimes a bowl of cereal with soy milk. But she fills up her bowl with generous amounts of blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries along with a teaspoon of flaxseed. In this case, she is breaking the rule of proper food combining. Remember how I said that fruits must be eaten on an empty stomach. But because what she is eating is considered healthy, I would presume that it is okay because it works for her. She is not like me who eat 5 to 6 fruits in the morning on an empty stomach. Different strokes for different folks. If you are trying to lose weight fast the healthy way, I would highly recommend eating fruit on empty stomach instead.
That is my sister’s usual breakfast pattern. When she gets hungry in midmorning, she tells me she would eat an orange or a peach to hold her till lunch. Then at lunch, she has a big bowl of salad that she created herself. What is so interesting is that she has won a loyal following from her peers on the concept of healthy skin diet. They would each bring something healthy from home. Some would bring celery. Some would bring tomatoes. Some cheese and nuts. My sister would bring the healthy chicken strips. And so forth. My sister would bring a huge salad bowl where they all pitch in with their assortment of vegetables to create this huge serving of salad for everyone involved. Kind of like a Vegetable potluck. But this was an everyday occasion. That is how devoted they are.
So by eating salads and vegetables which is compatible with any kind of meat, cheese and nuts is a perfect example of a meal for good digestive health. And in case you didn’t know, digestive health is also a barometer for healthy skin.
So to break it down very simply, my sister’s eating strategy is a more advanced form of detoxification without the use of the many as-seen-on-tv colon cleansing products like Dual Action Cleanse, Dr. Natura’s Colonix, or the Seven Day Miracle Cleanse, all of which I have personally used myself. And do you notice how she is naturally detoxifying her body with her favorite foods. But there is one thing I left out that you will find very surprising. Although my sister eats a healthy breakfast and lunch, but for dinner, she pigs out just like all of us on foods she loves at extravagant restaurants. So in other words, her dinner is her cheat meal. And on those few occasions it would be pizza. Hah!! I surprised you.
And she still manages to be able to maintain her age defying radiantly beautiful complexion despite the cheat meals she has almost every day. So the point I am trying to make here is that if you crave a hamburger or pizza, save that till dinner instead. This will allow you to focus on eating a healthy breakfast and lunch. Then for dinner, eat whatever you like. But don’t forget the rule of preceding your favorite meal with a plate of vegetables to pave the way for optimized digestion. This way of eating is a lot more bearable and sustainable than all the other colon cleansing programs out there in the marketplace that forces you to abstain from your favorite foods for days. And that would be more like a yo yo detox diet syndrome. Consistency is the name of the game.
In the next post, I will talk more in detail about other effective methods of detoxification involving your favorite foods. But this time, I will take the detoxification principles up a notch more. Remember I am giving you simple baby steps to follow where the element of pressure or stress is non existent.
As long as you are cleaning up on the front end, as in the case of breakfast and lunch, what you eat for dinner shouldn’t really matter if you are starting out at a beginner’s level detox program and gradually easing your way into a more advanced level of detoxification.

In my previous post, I focused deeply on eating strategies for high energy weight loss designed for people who have insatiable fast food addiction. I spent a great deal of time talking about very specific lunch eating strategies built around your favorite fast food. Today, I am going to cover the dinner eating strategies part of equation whether it is fast food or dining out at your favorite extravagant restaurant. The strategies entailed will not only focus on just it’s weight loss benefits but also the natural ageless skin care that comes from the nutrient assimilation of the hard to digest foods we naturally crave.
Hopefully by now, you are now incorporating the principles of eating a high water content rich salads or steamed vegetables prior to eating your favorite fast foods like Pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, and other junk food. The whole purpose of this exercise is to slowly prepare you for the arena of developing a natural healthy craving for healthy food. The goal is to slowly move into eating vegetables with starchy foods which is a perfect example of a properly combined meal for easy digestion. Vegetarian pasta, vegetarian sandwiches, vegetarian burritos, and vegetarian noodle soups would all fall under this category.
Let’s say you are beginning to developing a healthy craving for these vegetarian pastas. Regardless of this impressive change in dietary habit that you can eventually take pride in, you should still continue to precede all your solid vegetarian meals with your usual big bowl of salad or vegetable dish. The whole purpose is to fill your stomach with nutrient rich digestive enzymes coming from the salads to aid in digestion of solid food that fall under the category of a proper food combining. By starting your meal with a big bowl of salad, you reduce the amount of starch consumption by a great deal which equate to relieving a bloated stomach. And to remind you again, a properly combined meal equates to eating meats only with vegetables ONLY and NOT with starches.
If you crave meat like a hamburger for lunch or dinner, just have it without the bun. But first, you must eat your big bowl of salad before indulging in your meat eating ritual. This same salad eating strategy would apply to all kinds of meats you could possibly crave, like for example, steaks, pork chops, meat loaf, fish, ham, duck, and etc. Eggs would fall under the category of meats even though it is technically vegetarian. Eggs are incredibly hard to digest. Meats have a much better digestibility than eggs. So if you happen to crave scrambled eggs, you know exactly what to do before you have them. You need as much digestive strength as you can muster.
I don’t know how on earth can Olympic Swimming champion Michael Phelps down eight eggs in one sitting. If you are following the Olympics, you should be aware of his gargantuan eating habits. He is an example of a person who has excellent digestive strength due to the calorie-burning extreme physical exertion of his swimming activities. Exercises aids in digestion. Sedentary activities like working behind a computer does not.
Have you noticed a few hours after eating a big meal, you have developed slightly bad breath symptoms especially if your job involves sedentary activities with moderate levels of concentration, like for example, computer work? That is because the blood that is needed to digest your meal has been drawn away to feed your brain for intense mental concentration. I bet you if you do a study on the number of breath mints consumed in office work environment compared to physical work environment like construction, the office work environment wins hands down without a doubt. I am not trying to perpetuate a stereotype about office workers. I happen to be one of them myself.
Bad breath and radiant beauty are not synonymous. Women who have radiantly beautiful skin eat perfectly digestible meals like lots of salads or steamed vegetables. And these women who do a lot of computer work never have to worry about digestive impairment of an improper food combining. They rarely suffer from bad breath at all. And it is not because they cover it up with breath mints. Digestive enzymes in the form of salads or any high water content vegetables alleviates digestive burden.
Do you want more proof? Go eat a high fat meal like a hamburger and then return to your computer work or your intense scholastic studies, and you will be developing bad breath symptoms. I have had those symptoms in the past. I had found myself developing the instinctive habit of breathing on my hand repetitively to check for traces of bad breath. That’s how self conscious I was. I still do it occasionally to see if I pass the bad breath test.
So now I hope you do realize the importance of eating a properly combined meal for not only high energy weight loss and detoxification reasons, but also for ageless skin care reasons. This type of eating strategy is better than any kind of ageless skin care product in the market place today. The reason why I say this is because you all have heard the saying,”You are what you eat.” And your skin is your body’s barometer for internal health. If your body is inundated with the accumulation of toxins of improperly digested food emanating from poor eating habits, then blemishes, acne, Rosacea, oily acne prone skin, excessively dry skin, and any other kinds of skin imperfections will show up not only on your face but all over your body. That is why some people have rashes on different areas of their bodies. And this will open up a can of worms on the issue of food allergies. That is why skin care products are useless no matter how great they are if you don’t address the issue of toxins inside your body in the first place. The combination of both a good detox diet plan and a natural ageless skin care product would be highly recommended.
Food allergies is another topic I will cover in a later post. You may be surprised to find out that most people who were allergic to certain foods were able to consume them at a later time without no adverse side affects. That was achieved successfully after following the detoxification principles centered around the power of fruits and vegetables eaten correctly. And by engaging in proper eating habits centered around proper food combining principles, you will be painlessly following the most effective non-intrusive detox diet plan for losing weight without giving up your favorite foods. This will ultimately prepare you for higher levels of a detoxification process that will not be so overwhelming. You have all heard the saying of “Suffering from information overload.” The point I am making here is that you will not be a victim of detoxification overload.
You must remember that achieving perfect health and healthy ageless skin is a gradual process of modifying your diet by slowly transitioning from poor eating habits to good ones. It is not a race, but more like a marathon. If you look at this objective as a race, I guarantee that you will burn out just like those people who are victims of a yo yo diet syndrome. If you treat this like a marathon, you will more likely stay on the program because the concept of extremely drastic changes doesn’t persist. The keyword here is “Gradual”.
Today I have already covered the eating strategies for offsetting the effects of toxins in your favorite foods by preceding all your meals with high water content vegetables. In the next post, I will cover more on eating strategies for maximum weight loss and age defying beauty for those who want to take their detoxification to a much higher level to speed up the process of healthy weight loss and age defying beauty. And this fall under the category of Advanced Detoxification for those who are ready to step away from the beginner’s level.

In my previous post, I demystified your concern about counting calories in fruit and how that doesn’t really equate to rapid weight gain if you follow my carefully-laid out program of eating high water content fruits on an empty stomach, and not emulsifying it with your hard to digest foods like a steak and bake potato meal. Today I am going to go into great detail on the type of physical transformation you will excitably notice and awareness of your enhanced detoxification experiences in your well defined journey into accelerated weight loss.
You should be aware that fruit calories is not important because the detoxifying nature behind the power of fruits would supersede it in terms of easy weight loss. Fruits do not require any digestive energy whatsoever. Anything that drains you of energy are hard to digest foods like the typical egg McMuffin, or bacon, hash browns and coffee that most people indulge on in the early morning hours as their main source of fuel for the body. Now do you know why you feel sluggish early in the morning and the possibly extending in the wee hours of the afternoon. That is because the blood that is needed to digest your fatty breakfast meal is being drawn away from your brain. And to make matters worse, if your job involves high levels of concentration, it will even result in slow digestion. So that is like a double whammy for your energy levels and whatever levels of fat burning metabolism that your body could barely muster given the circumstances of your digestive impairment.
It will be nice if you could step away from your desk to take a walk for the purpose of optimized digestion. Construction workers, for example, can get away from eating a high fat meal and not have to worry about any kind of digestive impairment whatsoever given their sweaty activities. Although I am not discounting the number of obese construction workers in the workplace. An overweight construction worker is in much condition to digest a fatty meal than a sedentary office worker.
When I said that your digestion of a fatty meal was affected by the intensely high levels of mental concentration, this mostly apply to office workers and students because their jobs involve a lot of thinking and problem solving. Not to say that construction workers are not in the same situation, but their work habits do not require any effective problem solving skills at all due to the monotonous nature of typical construction work. In other words, construction workers don’t have to think as hard as students studying for the test.
My father the herbalist had educated me on the eventual health hazards of chasing down a big fatty meal with ample reserves of intense mental concentration, like for example, studying for a big exam. No wonder so many people have stomach ailments or health problems arising from lack of proper digestion. According to the principles of Chinese medicine, your digestive chi plays a crucial role in how your body effectively metabolizes food for energy and how it is stored as fat.
And as I am writing this post, I am eating at the moment two orders of Chicken Caesar Salad that I ordered from Togo’s Restaurant. And this is a perfect example of proper food combining that will not affect my digestive capabilities given the intense concentration I have to exert in writing this post. I am a big eater by the way. I cannot get satiated on one order of Togo’s salad.
I am just giving you a brief overview of how your digestive chi plays a crucial role in easy weight loss. Since this post is about educating you on the types of changes and physical reactions you should be aware of as a result of enhanced detoxification through a program of a properly combined meal, I will cover more on that topic of digestive chi later on. By this I mean eating fruits only on an empty stomach in the morning, and for the rest of the day, not mixing your meats with starch.
A lot of people embarking on this natural weight loss program have told me that the conditions were unbearable in the beginning such as diarrhea like symptoms that come naturally as a result of a morning-only fruit detox diet. That is because their body is already toxic from the accumulation of toxins in the beginning and the fact that they have made a drastic change in their morning diet, their bodies are adapting to this change. And given the fact that digestive energy is NOT needed for fruit consumption, their bodies can immediately utilize the high energy calories derived from the fruit pulp fiber itself through its colon cleansing form of detoxification.

In my previous post, I talked most about the importance of a properly combined meal as to how it relates to accelerated weight loss. Today I am going to cover something that is so controversial regarding the calorie counting theory and how that idea is doomed to failure from it’s inception. Anybody that tells you that fruits are high in calories and you shouldn’t eat too much of them has not really gone beyond the traditional way of thinking into a territory of the unlikely embraced principles of detox weight loss programs based on the cleansing power of fruits themselves irrespective of their high energy-giving calories in this high energy diet. What I am going delve into deeply is the demystification of fruit calories to calm people’s fears of rapid weight gain.
Remember I said previously that you can eat as much fruit as you want in the morning on an empty stomach leading up to lunch time? Most people will say to me that fruits are not filling and they will get hungry very fast. My answer to them is continue to eat enough fruits until you are satiated given the satiating power of fruits. Don’t eat to be full. The perfect rule of thumb taken from Fruit Detox guru Harvey Diamond is NEVER OVEREAT FRUIT and NEVER UNDER EAT FRUIT. And believe me, when he says don’t overeat, I know what he means. You will learn how to overcome overeating easily as you follow this program.
I remember once making the mistake of stuffing myself in one sitting of eight fruits consisting of 1 orange, a pear, 2 peaches, a grapefruit, one apple, and two bananas early in the morning. The reason for that is because I didn’t want to face the inconvenience of carrying those fruits with me on the road. The thought of me carrying a bag of fruits was embarrassing in itself. I remembered people asking me were those a week’s worth of groceries. What am I supposed to them? No, there for an entire morning’s consumption which would make me look like a extreme nut case, and not a health nut. Even avid health nuts don’t take fruit consumption to the extreme like I do.
Getting back to what happened as a result of stuffing my face with 8 fruits in one sitting resulting in stomach cramps and frequent trips to the you know what. In a way, I thought that was a faster way of detoxifying your body. But really, I was detoxifying way too fast and if I continued on that path, I would have been incredibly frail. My father the herbalist told me that detoxification has to be taken in steps. And given the cooling nature of fruits, it can extinguish your digestive fire.
I know you are wondering what the heck am I talking about? Digestive fire? Digestive fire is a term in traditional Chinese medicine to describe the temperature of your digestive system and how an excessive Yin condition as opposed to Yang can weaken your immune function. You have probably heard of yin and yang, but you don’t know how it applies to foods. Yang stands for heat, and Yin stands for the coldness. I will give you an example. Meats are considered yang foods given their warm nature. And fruits and vegetables are considered yin foods due to their cold nature.
I know most of you are thinking that fruits are not cold unless you refrigerate them, right? No, not exactly. From a Chinese medicine standpoint, they are categorized as a cold food which is designed to offset the warming nature of foods like meats, toast, baked goods and etc. Our bodies are constantly striving to maintain a balance of Yang and Yin. Have you ever noticed that your eyes are red and you have sore gums occasionally? That is a result of eating way too many warming foods and not enough cold foods like vegetables to offset the internal heat in your system resulting from overconsumption of warm foods. Acne, skin problems, excessively oily skin, dry skin, bad breath symptoms, digestive disorders, headaches, inflammation syndrome, anger, constipation, stomach problems, are symptoms of excessive Yang in your body. And that was the type of condition I had a long time ago as a result of eating way too many fried foods and chow mein and not enough vegetables and fruits which had made me a victim of acne. I was a victim of excessive Yang symptoms. My sister on the other hand is a victim of excessive Yin because she loves to eat salads all day and hardly any warming foods like meats.
Since this post is about the demystification of the calories in fruits, I will talk more about the Yin and Yang in future posts. I am just giving you the tip of the ice burg of more weight loss secrets to be disclosed based on the implementation of the Yin and Yang principle of a proper diet to follow in the upcoming posts.
Getting back to the point of eating fruits in one heavy sitting was an extreme form of detoxification that is so brutal to most people but not to me. But eventually I put a stop to it thanks to my dad, and took on the Fruit till noon approach which is eating as many fruits as you desire but only do so when you feel hungry or thirsty. Since fruits stay in your stomach a half hour, eating a fruit every half hour is not overwhelming compared to the extreme self-torturing example I have given above. And what I noticed that eating green apples, especially Granny Smith ones, is a better natural appetite suppressant than most fruits. Eating fruits is an experimental process. You just to have to find what kind of fruit combinations are right for you.
I know of a lady friend of mine who eats fruit salads every morning ever since I told her of the weight loss benefits of the Fruit Till Noon approach. That is a great way to get your daily assortment of fruits in one morning. Now she has her kids adopting that approach. She would prepare her kids a bowl of fruit salad before she sends them off to school. She told me that instead of having her kids drink milk in the morning, they do it in the afternoon so they could benefit from the fruit nutrition that they really need in the morning. Nothing makes me happier and prouder than seeing friends of mine adopting this principle of correct fruit consumption and taking it a step further by instilling those values in their children.
Regardless of how many fruits you eat in the morning, you shouldn’t be worried about counting calories. All weight loss experts and personal trainers will tell you what they learned in class. Energy in equals energy out. I know that theory just stinks like rotten eggs. And I will prove it to you.
I used to be a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer at 24 Hour fitness back in 1997-2000, and I have taken the courses and I discovered what was taught in nutrition class conflicts with the principles of detoxification. At that time when I was a personal trainer, colon cleansing or any topic of detoxification was incredibly foreign. No one knew about it or at least talked about it. Did you see Klee Irwin on TV infomercials at that time talking about the graphic nature of a healthy bowel movement? This was back in 1997.
At that time, people were focused on weight loss through cutting calories, increasing protein intake, and increasing the frequency and intensity of your workouts. What personal trainers fail to address is that everyone’s body is different. And they cannot explain how a person like me who can eat like a pig and never gain a single pound, compared to an overweight person who barely eats and continues to struggle with weight loss. Everyone’s metabolism is different based on either the nature of their body chemistry or the gradual intensity of their workout routines. Now you are probably wondering how can an overweight person eat fruit all morning without gaining weight since fruits are quote-end-quote “HIGH IN CALORIES”.
To put it in a nut shell, fruits, like I have said before, do not require digestion. One Granny Smith Apple contains about 80 calories. A peach contains about pretty much the same. Every calorie counting book you read shows variations in the numbers. The point being is that an average fruit is about close to a 100 calories. Bananas maybe a little more. But the point I want to reiterate again is fruits are easier to digest than an Egg McMuffin with hash browns. In other words, I rather eat 8 fruits in one morning which combine to a total of about almost 800 calories instead eating a fatty meal of bacon and hash browns consisting about the same amount of calories which will stay and rot in your stomach for about 8 hours leaving you feeling sluggish and groggy. And you already know that sluggishness leads to weight gain.
I am not a scientist or statistician and I find quantifying the energy value of food in terms of calories is ridiculous in itself when it comes to applying it to your weight loss programs.
I know what the diabetics are going to say. I cannot eat fruits. My answer to them is yes you can. Just stay away from the bananas, and focus on fruits that are low in the glycemic index like Granny Smith apples. Fruit detoxification principles do not discriminate against overweight people or anyone who claims they are allergic to fruit. Fruit consumption is a habit you should develop gradually and it will take a lot of getting used to. I make it a part of my daily morning routine. As I am typing this post, I just finished my fourth Granny Smith Apple at 10:25 Pacific Time to be exact.
Fruits are designed to heal your body if you consume them correctly. The diseases that most people are afflicted with today are result of poor food choices. Too much processed foods. Cookies, Cakes, breads, meats, hot dogs, potato chips, and you name it. The body can only get to a certain point where it cannot handle the toxic overload of what I call junk food. Now do you see why people complain about headaches and other ailments especially weight gain?
Now do yourself a favor, and throw away all those latest updated calorie counting books that come out every frickin’ year. Or at least rip out the calorie counting section for the fruits. Enjoy proper food consumption without having to stress out any more because you forgot to put your calorie-counting calculator in your purse or pocket.

In the previous post, I disclosed a very detailed strategy that you can follow for the most natural and effective weight loss plan that anyone can adopt without drastically changing your diet with the simple implementation of consuming high water content fruits on an empty stomach. Today I am going to cover the good stuff with how to eat your favorite meals properly using proper food combining techniques that will not only aid in detoxification and give you lots of energy, but help you achieve accelerated weight loss results fast.
You have already learned that fruits are high in water content and high in fiber and eaten as a morning fruit. And by consuming them as such, there is no excuse that you cannot get your doctor-recommended daily allotment of fiber for a day with fruits. So that will save you from the misery of going to your supermarket to buy latest High fiber cereal. And cereals have no water content in it which is not beneficial in goals in achieving your weight loss goals.
Cereals are basically carbohydrates that have the water drained out from it through baking procedures. Crackers, cookies, chips, baked potatoes, toasted bread or any kind of baked goods all fall under the category of water-depleted carbohydrates. Just to let you know that these are not carbohydrates for weight loss. So in order for you to digest them effectively, it requires a lot of chewing where the mixture of the enzymes from your saliva to break them apart for easy digestion given the dried nature of those foods. Can you imagine difference between swallowing a small bite size cracker without chewing it VERSUS swallowing a same size piece of soft bread? At least the bread has at least some water content in it. That is why you see loaf of bread at the supermarket steaming up inside the plastic bag occasionally under different weather conditions. In other words if you leave a piece of bread out in the open air, it will eventually harden as a result of the complete evaporation of water content in the bread.
The point I am trying to make is that a lot of process foods have the water content completely evaporated from it. And we all know that water aids in weight loss. And most people don’t consume enough water on a daily basis and even if they do, they are still not getting the recommended amount of water they need in order to achieve their weight loss goals. You are probably wondering how is that?
Have you ever had a meal where you found yourself incredibly thirsty later on? That is because you have just consumed a meal with very low water content in it despite drinking ample amounts of fluids. Now just think about that for moment. If you instead had a big bowl of water-content rich salad, you wouldn’t need to drink any water after all. And if you did after a bowl of salad, you will find yourself having to urinate more frequently. Have you ever wondered how come on certain days you have to use the restroom more frequently than other days? And you thought you drank too much water. Many times that is not the case. Now do you see how the water content in natural vegetables, as in the case of the big bowl of salad, can help you accelerate your weight loss much more effectively?
I know what you are thinking right now? You are probably thinking that if you consume a meal that is low in water content, like for example a steak and baked potato, you can make up for it by drinking more water than normal. That approach is already doomed from the start to begin with because you usually end up drinking too much water. And I will explain why.
The water content in vegetables are not only rich in nutrients but also rich in digestive enzymes. A steak and baked potato is not. A Chinese Herbalist (a friend of my dad’s) once told me that in order to digest a piece of steak effectively, you would have to chew it up for about more than a minute below swallowing in order to allow the saliva to mix thoroughly into the rough texture of the piece of meat. Now that would be analogous to chewing gum. I tried that one time and I found the eating experience not very enjoyable. Since I am not a steak eater because given my Buddhist background, I cannot eat beef. But I do enjoy other meats besides beef. But I do want to stress the importance of chewing your food thoroughly too, but not to the point where you are chewing the piece of meat monotonously to the point where it is already way too broken apart and too watered down. While everyone is already done with their lunch, I would still be chewing on my half finished meal.
By the way, meats and starches are an example of improper food combining. In Harvey Diamond’s book Fit For Life, I discovered that meats cannot be digested properly with starches. And vice versa. That is due to the disruption of acid/alkaline balance resulting from the simultaneous consumption of both meat and starches because they both require isolated chemical elements for proper digestion. Meats require acid, and potatoes requires alkalies for proper digestion but the two cannot be mixed together as they would suspend the functionality of their digestive capabilities. Let me give you an example.
Have you noticed that every time when you consume a meal consisting of protein, carbohydrates, and fats, you feel sluggish? That is because the digestion requires so much energy that it draws blood away from your brain to provide fuel to your stomach due to the digestive incompatibility of the steak-baked potato combination. Just like reading a book after a meal, according to the principles of Chinese medicine, affects digestion as blood is drawn from the stomach to the brain for concentration purposes.
And we already know that sluggishness slows down your fat metabolism. So does it make sense to eat a properly combined meal. Now you are wondering what on earth is a properly combined meal? How would you like to eat your favorite foods the proper way to help you accelerate your weight loss goals? You can accomplish that by eating your favorite meats with your favorite vegetables. In other words, if you like to eat steak, instead of eating it with a bake potato, have it with a big bowl of salad with any dressing of your choice or cooked stir fried vegetables. Vegetables and meats are very compatible in terms of digestibility.
Right now you are probably thinking, “Hey wait a minute. Isn’t a potato a vegetable?” My answer to that is that in a raw state, it is a vegetable, but when baked, all the water content has evaporated and it turns into a starch.
If you feel like having pasta, don’t have it with meat. Have it with your favorite vegetables.
So there you go. This is the perfect way to properly eat your favorite meals for the most optimized digestion. But one rule to remember, never overeat. Eat to be satiated and not full and you will see the difference in your energy levels as it relates to fat metabolism and weight loss.
In the next post, I will go more into detail about what kind of changes should you noticed physiologically and physically as you start embarking on what I call a less-intensive, less lifestyle-intrusive detox diet plan for easy weight loss.

Continuing where I left off on the previous post, I generated a lot of curiosity about my routine of consuming only high water content fruits on an empty stomach leading up to lunch time. I am going talk about the reason behind this effective strategy to help you accelerate your weight loss dramatically without making any drastic changes in diet. You will see the results instantly and the reason behind the results is just a minor change in your breakfast habits without interfering with what you normally have for lunch or dinner. As a matter of fact, once you adhere to the Fruit till Noon plan, you will notice that your cravings for unhealthy foods will no longer persist. Occasionally you will be able to indulge in pizza, fried chicken, or your favorite cake like me without suffering from the after effects of extreme indigestion.
A lot of people I know do not know how to eat fruit correctly. They usually eat it after a meal like a desert. They often say that it is better to eat a fruit than a candy bar. I agree with that statement to the effect that it is better to put less junk food in your system. And fruit is not junk food. But that doesn’t change the fact that fruit eaten after a meal results in the fermentation of food in stomach. Have you noticed that every time you have a fruit after a meal, you start burping it up? In some cases, some people have heart burn or any other kind of stomach ailments resulting from it. The reason why this is the case is that fruit doesn’t not require digestion at all and it stays in your stomach for less than thirty minutes. Bananas stay in your stomach for about 45 minutes because they are not like high water content fruits like oranges, grapefruits, and melons. Melons are the only fruits that have more water content than all of them. And melons are best consumed best before any other fruits due to their watery nature.
Now after you are done with lunch, (let’s say, you had a steak and bake potato), given the amount of energy that is required to digest a steak and a bake potato due to the improper food combining of protein and starches. A steak and potato will stay in your stomach for about 5 hours or more depending on the strength of your digestive system.
From an herbalist point of view coming from my dad, we all have different digestive systems that are unique in terms of how food is quickly digested. That is based on your overall health. You have heard of people who catch colds easily. Those are examples of people who may have weak digestive systems.
Now getting back to the point about the steak and bake potato. Knowing that proteins and starches stay in your stomach for a very long time, you can come to the conclusion what will happen if you chase that meal down with fruits knowing very well that fruits stay in your stomach for less than a half hour. So the fruit that is supposed to leave your stomach quickly for easy nutrient assimilation becomes trapped in the wreckage of your steak and potato meal. Sorry for this analogy, but I can’t think of any other at the moment.
So the nutrients in the fruit becomes a total waste given the incorrect nature in which it was consumed. Fruits are supposed to be eaten on an empty stomach given the easy assimilation factor.
Now you are wondering how does that attribute to helping you in achieving accelerated weight loss results. Fruits were known for centuries as a natural detoxifier. Bernard Jensen, a world renowned guru on the subject of detoxification talks about the healing power of fruits in his book. And when I say detoxification, I am talking about the subject of cleaning your system up completely. Constipation, diarrhea, colon cancer, digestive orders, weight gain, skin problems, and the host of other disorders all originate from the dirtiness of our intestinal tract as a result of not only the junk food we eat but also the improper food combining habits we all have developed, including myself occasionally especially when I want to indulge in my favorite Mexican Carnitas burrito which consist of delicious fried pork. And that is an example of improper food combining. I am only human and I have cravings like all of you despite the fact that I am a avid health nut.
Meat and starch do not go well together as in the case of my favorite burrito meal. I will elaborate more on the incompatibility of proteins and starches in a later post since I already have so much to cover on fruits and weight loss alone in this post.
Fruits not only are high in fiber but they are high in nutrient rich water content that cannot be compared with drinking water alone. I know some people who go on a WATER TILL NOON routine which I know is effective too, but it doesn’t have the same cleansing and detoxifying effects as the water content of fruits.
You have all heard of the latest trend in colon cleansing and how it relates to accelerated weight loss results. All those infomercials touting the benefits of their colon cleansing formulas have already surfaced all over the TV airwaves on a nationwide level. Even myself, I have used quite a few of them myself back in December of 2004 when I saw the first Dual Action Cleanse infomercial featuring Klee Irwin, the founder of the company. I have even used Dr. Natura’s Colonix products. Those products are in some way effective but you will find out from my experience that they do not provide a long term solution to the problem of colon cleansing. I found myself constipated a few times as a result of using their products. The reason for that is because you have to drink a lot of water in order for those products to work. You got to realize that high fiber colon cleansing products do not have any water content at all. That is why water consumption in conjunction with its use is critical.
Fruits on the other hand are naturally high in fiber and have a lot of water content. That is why you will notice as you eat fruits throughout the morning, you will not be thirsty. So do yourself a favor and save yourself some money. Before you go out to buy the next latest as-seen-on-TV colon cleansing product on the market, try consuming only fruits on an empty stomach throughout the morning and you will see the drastic changes in your physical appearance in a short period of time because fruits are a natural God-given colon cleanser.

Continuing where I left off with the previous post, I am going to go into greater detail on why you should eat fruit on an empty stomach preferably in the morning only leading up to lunch time, and at that point in time, you can stop the fruit consumption. And by eating fruits in the morning is not only the correct way , but the best way to squeeze your doctor recommended daily allotment of fruit in one day. And this is where I am going to focus on the art and science of showing how you can detoxify your body with fruits on an empty stomach to accelerate your health to higher levels you never thought possible.
Most people I know always complain to me that it is impossible to consume 5 servings of fruits or more a day. Many people eat out a lot and they would say that the task of bringing fruits with them on the road is impossible. And my reply to them that if they forgo their usual breakfast routine of an Egg McMuffin or bacon and eggs with toast, and replace those system-clogging foods with fruits instead, the five fruits in a day task can easily be resolved.
Let me give you a perfect example of a routine I follow every day. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning before I brush my teeth is to eat one apple. After that, I go on to do my morning hygiene chores which should take about a half hour including taking a shower. Noticed that I said a half hour. The reason why this time is really important for me is based on the fact that fruits don’t require any digestion at all and it only stays in your stomach for less than thirty minutes.
Most people would eat their breakfast when they are done taking a shower. But, for me, I would bring my favorite five fruits with me in a backpack consisting of a peach, another apple, a banana, a grapefruit, and a pear. As I drive to work, I would be chewing on an apple in my car. So that is already two fruits I have consumed prior to arriving to work.
I worked in an office so that makes it very convenient for me to spread the fruits all over my desk in a beautiful display of fruity art. Noticed that when I eat fruits, I do not eat them all in one sitting. I spread it out evenly throughout the morning usually about a half hour increments given the length of time fruits remain in your stomach. So before lunch arrives, all my fruits would have been consumed already. Then I would look forward to a delicious lunch which I will go into later on how to properly eat proteins and carbohydrates.
I know most of you are thinking right now that some of you don’t work in an office environment like I do. As a matter of fact, I have friends who work in retail environment like Macy’s where they have to stand behind the counter to greet customers. In case you didn’t know, I used to work at Macy’s selling women shoes and, given the circumstances, I still was able to eat five or more fruits in the morning before lunch arrived.
Remember I said I would be done with my second apple on my way to work. So that leaves you with three more fruits that have to be eaten. So instead of eating a candy bar or bag of chips like most people in retail while they are working, just eat an apple or a peach in the early part of your work day prior to taking a break. Then at break you can eat your fruit number four. And then finally, thirty minutes prior to lunch, eat your last fruit instead of a bag of chips or Snickers like I see people in retail do. If I can do it, so can you.
I know right now you are wondering what about drinking water? My answer to you is that fruits have plenty of water content. And if you eat as many fruits like I do, you won’t need to drink any water. But occasionally on a very hot day, I would drink water in between fruit consumption sessions.
A lot of people would ask me that if they can replace fruits with a bottle of juice? My answer to them is as long as the juice is 100% freshly squeezed and not pasteurized like most concentrated juices. As a matter of fact, sometimes when I find myself in a jam once in a while where I don’t feel like eating fruits at all, I would go to Safeway to buy a huge bottle of Odwalla Superfood juice which contains not only five delicious servings of naturally squeezed fruit pulpy juice but also wheat grass, spirulina, and barley grass that are great for detoxification. So the juice looks green and yucky to people see me drinking it. But boy, it sure tastes good. Odwalla has done a good job making wheat grass and barley grass drinks very tasty when combined with the delicious assortment of fruit blends.
Due to the length of this post, I will continue on in the next post on how eating fruits on an empty stomach can reverse all kinds of health problems, including weight loss with inches lost off your waist. I have friends who didn’t change their diet at all but have lost weight because they changed their breakfast routine to ONLY FRUITS TILL NOON. I will elaborate more on this on the next post. You all have heard of the saying,“Eat an Apple A Day to Keep the Doctor Away.” But in reality to really to take your health to a much higher level, it should be ,“Eat An Apple On An Empty Stomach A Day To Keep The Doctor Away.” Why, you might ask? In case you didn’t know, unlike other types of carbohydrates like rice and proteins like meats which requires hours of digestion time, fruits do not require any digestion at all. Once you eat an apple, for example, it stays in your stomach for about less than 30 minutes before it enters your intestines. I learned of this amazing concept from a book called Fit For Life by Harvey Diamond and Marilyn Diamond, a book that really changed my whole outlook on health, where he teaches you how to detoxify your body with fruits on an empty stomach.
All my life, I have suffered from acne problems and you will see how Harvey Diamond’s detoxification principles have turned my life completely around. I was misguided from the beginning that acne problems were not related to diet as claimed by the Proactive Acne Solutions experts. Don’t get me wrong. I know there are a lot of people who have gotten great results from Proactive Solutions and the testimonials are there to prove it. But what that product doesn’t address is the issue of excessively oily skin which is a condition that I suffer as an Chinese American all my life starting at age 21 leading up to age 34. I am 38 by the way and acne free. I thought I had to search for an Asian Skin Care product because Asians tend to suffer from the same skin ailments. Just like Asians are more susceptible to strokes than any other ethnicity.
It hurts my feelings when my dad would ask me if I had washed my face. That is how oily my skin was. If you thought about it, just think what would happen if molded food stayed in your intestinal tract for days. That would result in the accumulation of toxins not just for days, but for weeks and even more. No wonder people wake up feeling so groggy all the time from poor food choices. And that is exactly what I went through all my life.
Thanks to my dad, he got me on the right path of health and wellness with those suggestions. My dad and mom developed a habit of eating yams every day for many years because he told me that yams or sweet potatoes are incredibly high in fiber and it not eliminates cancer but also relieves constipation. He would constantly tell me over and over again that the people in Africa rarely suffer from colon cancer, a devastating ailment that has afflicted my grandfather and my uncle. So being paranoid, he always said it was better to be safe than sorry. So my dad and mom are constantly shopping for yams and sweet potatoes every day.
So that started me on the path of eating foods that are high in fiber which were obviously present in fruits and salads. Are you a big fan of Dr. Perricone? In case you didn’t know, he is considered to be the guru of anti-aging with his famous ageless facial line of products. Oprah Winfrey loves him to death along with other famous movie stars who have depended on him for beauty tips specifically targeted for anti-aging. I am big fan of his too in case you didn’t know because of his extensive knowledgeable on the process of slowing the effects of the aging process and the types of ageless facial products that he designed to combat the effects of aging.
My biggest problem with his products is that they are incredibly expensive. The whole purpose of this article is to educate skin care fanatics so they can get a much affordable alternative for only less than sixty dollars a month consisting of mainly of all the natural age-defying ingredients that Dr Perricone talks about on his show that not only decelerate the effects of aging but also gives you smooth skin.
The question you should ask yourself is does your skin at least get 10 servings of fruits a day? If not, then you should be looking at this unique one of a kind product that I am so passionate about. You are probably wondering what are these fruits in question? Have your heard of acai berries? Goji berries? Noni? Acerola Cherries? Blueberries? Mangosteen? Grape skin extract? Pomegranate? Red Rasberry? Red Currants? Red Cabbage and Red Radish? Aloe Vera? These are all the fruits and vegetables present in this ageless facial product.
